I met my husband in a multi-user dungeon in 2000. Plain speak: an online text-based game. It was the Two Towers MUD. He was a Sindarin wizard and so was I. (This story deserves its own post and will get it 😉 )
When I informed everyone I had a boyfriend (but no, we haven’t met face-to-face yet), my family and colleagues thought I was crazy. This merited my father’s famous reply to me: “You’re quaint.” Which was actually a compliment and coming from my dad, a statement of acceptance and support. But these days, it turns out that one 1 out of 8 couples that married in 2007 met online. I’m not so quaint anymore.
This and a lot more interesting facts about the merging of globalisation and technology in the video below. Its impact and other extrapolations are left for you and I to ponder.
